Why do you take and create images?
I create images because I want to freeze time. My images are visual representation of my self at a certain time.
How do you define your photographic/artistic body of work? What subjects do you often explore in your work?
My body of work explores the idea of transience, absence, and longing.
What motivates your work?
Certain studies of psychology.
What relationship does your work have with reality?
For you, what is the purpose of art?
The purpose of art is remembering.
How do you want the public to respond to your work? Do you have a particular audience in mind?
I want the public to relate to my images. I want them to think that my images can speak in behalf of them, that they have felt what I felt. I don’t have a particular audience in mind, yet.
What is your training? Were you trained as a photographer?
My journey to photography started with curiosity. I wasn’t trained or enrolled at an art school thus I started reading and looking at images.
How do you define your actual professional situation? What are your expectations?
My work as a professional photographer isn’t as stable as my work as a photo editor and graphic designer. In all honesty, I don’t expect anything from my photography; I just want to do it for myself. If anything great happens, that’s a bonus.
It’s hard to live off art. Does this affect you and your work?
Sometimes it does but it does not greatly affect my work.
Have you worked with gallerists, curators, institutions and other art professionals? Can you discuss more about this particular relationship?
Living in Davao City while growing my sense of art, I wasn’t able to really work with the said people. I have had solo exhibits but it was mostly curated by me.
Although I long for my works to be curated and edited for I know that it is what it needs.
In your opinion, what is the current state of contemporary photography in the Philippines?
It is growing.
How do you want contemporary photography to develop in the Philippines?
I want to be part of a movement that will inspire the young creatives to go outside of Instagram.
