Untitled (After Hidalgo, Vulnera)

Etched cardboard, 36’’x48’’
2015

My multidisciplinary practice explores the nature of renovation. I am interested in both cultural and architectural re-fashioning. Images #10-13 stem from my relationship with my home country and with my great grand-uncle, the Filipino painter Hidalgo. The photo-based paintings are from personal photographs of paintings bequeathed to me. Within the frame of this quasi-anthropological project I ask myself: how can I explore the concepts of re-appropriation and repatriation through the concept of dissonance? What are the effects of reclaiming a historical narrative that is steeped in the time of the revolution, and the potentiality to provide a contemporary present day lens?
